Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH)

The UPCH Global Health Centre, formed in 2009, under the direction of Dr Hugo García, encompasses a number of research initiatives aimed at improving the health of the population.
Among its units are the Global Health Centre of Tumbes, the Centre of Excellence in Chronic Disease Research (CRONICAS), the Research Unit on Parasitic Diseases of the Central Nervous System, the Centre for Clinical Studies, among others.
The CSG CSG has an annual output of more than 40 publications in indexed international journals and manages approximately 20 research projects funded by the US National Institutes of Health, the UK Wellcome Trust and other international academic agencies..

Hector Hugo Garcia
Country leader - Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia
Hugo, MD, PhD, is a researcher at the National Institute of Neurological Sciences, Director of the Center for Global Health at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) and Adjunct Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health (JHSPH) in Baltimore.
Dr. Garcia received his medical degree from UPCH and his PhD from JHSPH. He is an internationally renowned expert on parasitic infections of the nervous system, and has multiple first author articles in journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet and Neurology. He has also edited four books on cysticercosis and parasitic infections of the nervous system, and has written numerous reviews and textbook chapters on this topic.
Dr. Garcia coordinates the Cysticercosis Working Group in Peru, a highly productive group that has worked together over a period of 20 years in research and capacity building in Peru.

Javier Bustos
Executive Coordinator - Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia
Javier, MD, MSc, MSc, MPH, Ph, is a physician with a Masters in Public Health in Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Clinical Trials and a PhD in International Health (JHSPH) and a Masters in Infectious Disease Control (UPCH).
Dr. Bustos has been involved in the design and implementation of pre-clinical and clinical studies in the Cysticercosis Working Group in Peru for the last 20 years

Tania De La Cruz
Capacity Development Coordinator - Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia
Tania is a physician with a degree in Human Medicine and a Master of Science, possessing extensive experience in health research and project management. She has international clinical training, has worked in various medical roles, and is a distinguished lecturer and speaker, specializing in epidemiology and tropical medicine. An active member of professional associations, she is recognized for her contributions to research and has advanced skills in statistical analysis, data management, and operating systems.

Esther López Alva
Communications Coordinator - Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia
A graduate in Corporate Communications with a specialization in Marketing, Esther is an experienced communications expert specializing in engagement strategies and reputation management. She has extensive experience in reputational crisis management, PR, and positioning. She has a distinguished track record leading crisis management, image and reputation management, and has designed positioning strategies for organizations in the mining, retail, healthcare, and consumer goods sectors.

German Málaga
Researcher - Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia
Dr. Málaga is a distinguished physician and researcher with extensive experience in internal medicine. A graduate of the National University of San Agustín and the Cayetano Heredia University, he has led numerous studies, particularly in chronic diseases and neurology. His work includes participation in international clinical trials and the direction of health implementation projects. He is also an Associate Professor and Head of Internal Medicine at Cayetano Heredia University, further solidifying his impact on medical research and practice.

Nancy Yovana Puchuri Medina
Data Management Coordinator - Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia
A graduate in Business Administration and Systems Analysis, with extensive experience in SQL Server. Proactive and responsible, she leads the implementation of information systems at Cayetano Heredia University in Peru. She excels in data analysis and management in projects such as INPPACE and the university laboratory. She is proficient in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, UML, Windows Server 2003 administration, and international trade.

Selene Mathof Salas Reymundo
Data Analyst - Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia
Dentist and researcher with a master's degree in Epidemiology. Collaborator at Emerge and Cayetano Heredia University in Peru. Expert in project design and management at REDCap. Recognized for implementing educational programs for the prevention of emerging diseases. Acclaimed for her orthopedic contributions to cleft lip and palate treatment. Proficient in English and Portuguese, with advanced skills in SPSS and STATA.

Heydi Toro Cueva
Administrative Assistant - Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia
Heydi is an experienced research administrator and has managed the logistical administration of several projects. She has collaborated with the Cysticercosis Working Group in Peru since its inception. She has worked on a 10-year cysticercosis elimination program funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She has attended a Research Administrator Development Workshop in Peru (April 2014), the Fogarty Administrators Meeting at the University of Washington (August 2016), and the SRA International Annual Meeting in Seattle (October 2023).
