The Instituto de Enfermedades Infecciosas y Parasitologia Antonio Vidal (Antonio Vidal Institute of Infectious Diseases and Parasitology, IAV) is a private non-profit foundation. The IAV is committed to the development and promotion of research, training, and consultation activities on infectious diseases and parasitology, assisting government and university institutions in their healthcare, administrative, technical, and teaching functions, to contribute to clinical-epidemiological diagnosis, management, control, and prevention of these diseases and to improve the health of affected populations.

Regional Coordinator - Antonio Vidal Institute
Jackie is a parasitologist working in the Clinical Laboratory Department of the main public health hospital, Hospital Escuela in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. She currently serves as Executive Director of the Antonio Vidal Institute of Infectious Diseases and Parasitology (IAV). She combines clinical laboratory work, teaching and research activities with mentoring of health students and health research professionals.

Maria A. Ramos
Clinical Endocrinologist, Internal Medicine Department, Hospital Escuela, Tegucigalpa, Honduras
María Alejandra is a clinical endocrinologist. She currently works as head of service and is responsible for the Inter-institutional Operations Unit at the Hospital Escuela, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, coordinating inter-institutional projects. She combines her clinical and patient care duties with teaching and research activities with different initiatives at local and regional level. She is also involved in mentoring internal medicine fellows and health research professionals and as co-investigator of the Global Health Consortium at Florida State University, USA, and its liaison in Honduras.

Diana Varela
Diana is a specialist in internal medicine and infectious diseases. She is currently head of the Infectious Diseases Service and head of the Integrated Health Care Service for people living with HIV, Hospital Escuela, Tegucigalpa, Honduras. She is also a member of the Antonio Vidal Institute of Infectious Diseases and Parasitology (IAV) and is actively involved in training on the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases.

Saúl Lira Albarrán
Consultant, Research Department, Hospital Escuela, Tegucigalpa
Saúl Lira Albarrán completed his bachelor's degree in medicine and a master's degree in Clinical Research at the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. He is a medical geneticist and earned a Doctor of Science (Biomedical) degree with honors from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He was a fellow of the Latin American Program for Sexual and Reproductive Health. During his first postdoctoral stay at the Center for Reproductive Sciences, University of California, San Francisco (2019 – 2021), he was a UC MEXUS-CONACYT fellow. He pursued a second postdoctoral position at the Institute for Obesity Research, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico (2022 – 2023). He also served as a Medical Sciences Researcher in the Department of Reproductive Biology at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition Salvador Zubirán, Mexico (2013 – 2019).
