The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz)

Fiocruz

The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) is one of the most prominent Science and Technology Institutions in Health in Latin America. It is attached to the Brazilian Ministry of Health and its mission is to produce, disseminate and share knowledge and technologies, with the aim of strengthening and consolidating the Unified Health System (SUS, acronym in Portuguese for the Brazilian public health system) and the promotion of health and quality of life of the population.

Since its foundation in 1900, Fiocruz has been responding to the most common diseases affecting the Brazilian population. For its scientific contribution, the institution is considered a reference in research and treatment of Chagas disease, yellow fever, dengue, Zika, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and others.

In addition to its presence in all regions of Brazil, Fiocruz has historically maintained a strong international presence through cooperation and exchange with other health and science and technology institutions and international agencies in more than 50 countries on all continents. International cooperation has always been a value and commitment for the Foundation. Currently, the institution has six WHO Collaborating Centres.

HUB Fiocruz

Since 2019, Fiocruz has a collaborative and open access knowledge hub, which aims to strengthen networks and enhance capacities for public health research at regional and global levels, by providing a vibrant virtual environment where practitioners, students and researchers can share experiences, knowledge, resources and research tools.

Cristiani Vieira Machado
PI - Fiocruz – Oswaldo Cruz Foundation

Cristiani Vieira Machado is a physician, researcher and lecturer at the Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health at Fiocruz. She holds a master's degree and doctorate in public health (UERJ) and a post-doctorate in Political Science (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - USA). She is currently the Vice-President of Education, Information and Communication of Fiocruz.

 
 

Ernesto Raul Caffarena
Co PI - Fiocruz

Ernesto Caffarena has a degree in Physics (1993) and a PhD in Exact Sciences (1996) from the National University of La Plata. He has experience in the area of ​​Molecular Biophysics, with an emphasis on Molecular Dynamics and computational free energy calculations. He is currently a principal researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and coordinates the Fiocruz Scientific Computing Program (VPEIC).

Leonardo Bastos
Co PI - Fiocruz

Leonardo is a public health researcher at the the Scientific Computing Program (PROCC/Fiocruz). He has a BSc degree in Statistics (UFMG), with a MSc (UFRJ) and a PhD (The University of Sheffield, UK) in the same area. He did a post-doctorate in infectious disease epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK. His main work is on development and application of statistical methods in the epidemiology of infectious diseases. He is a co-PI at Fiocruz on The Global Health Network Latin America and The Caribbean (TGHN LAC).

Ana Lúcia Teixeira
Administrative Analyst

Ana Lúcia has been working since 2005 in the Scientific Computing Program (PROCC/VPEIC), in the administrative management and planning of national and international projects, as well as in other activities of the department. Currently, she also supports the administrative activities of the Fiocruz Hub and the TGHN LAC Hub in the Global Health Network.

Flávia Bueno
Executive Coordinator

Flávia is a psychologist, has a residency (UFRJ) and a master's degree in Public Health (Fiocruz). She holds a PhD in Global Health and Sustainability (USP). Currently, she is executive coordinator of projects of the Fiocruz Hub at The Global Health Network, acting in the Fiocruz Scientific Computing Program (PROCC/VPEIC).

Larissa Marques
Data Coordinator

Larissa is a nurse, specialist in health management, master and PhD in Collective Health (epidemiology area) (UFSC). Post-doctorate in epidemiology (Fiocruz). She is currently a data coordinator in projects of the Fiocruz Hub in The Global Health Network, acting in the Fiocruz Scientific Computing Program (PROCC/VPEIC).

Luísa Picanço
Communication Analyst

Luísa is a journalist (UnB) and Master in Education, Dissemination and Management in Biosciences (UFRJ). She currently works as a communication analyst in the Fiocruz Hub at The Global Health Network, acting in the Fiocruz Scientific Computing Program (PROCC/VPEIC).

Amanda Bejar
Administrative Assistant

Amanda has a degree in Events (UNESA) and is a technologist in Optometry and Contactology (SENAC). She is currently studying a specialisation in Project Management. She has a multidisciplinary professional profile marked by fifteen years of management experience - with a focus on the articulation between strategic partners, the generation of financial and accountability reports, as well as the organization of scientific events. He is currently Administrative Assistant at the Fiocruz Hub in The Global Health Network, acting in the Fiocruz Scientific Computing Program (PROCC/VPEIC).

Cristiane Bresani
Researcher

Cristiane is a physician, specialist in General Medicine, with a master's degree in Maternal and Child Health and a PhD in Sciences (Fiocruz). She is a clinical researcher at the Laboratory of Virology and Experimental Therapeutics (LaViTE) at the Fiocruz office in Pernambuco, where she is a regional collaborator, carrying out the activities of the LAC Regional Programme of The Global Health Network.

Jaime Ribeiro Filho
Researcher

Jaime has a degree in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). He holds a Master's degree in Pharmacology (UFPB) and a PhD in Sciences from Fiocruz. He is a researcher at Fiocruz Ceará and a professor and advisor in various university programs, in addition to Fiocruz. He works in the investigation of new therapeutic targets and preclinical research of new drug candidates for the treatment of inflammatory and infectious diseases. He studies Ethnopharmacology, Therapeutic Education, and Public Health in communities in the Sertão of Ceará. He is a Regional Collaborating Researcher for The Global Health Network Latin America and The Caribbean (TGHN-LAC).
