Workshop – How to Prepare a Clinical Case and Clinical Image for Publication?
The “Writing and Publishing Clinical Cases and Clinical Images” Workshop, organized by the Research Directorate and the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC), the Research and Academic Management Unit of Hospital Escuela, and the Instituto Antonio Vidal, within the framework of the The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean (TGHN LAC) Project, was held on September 11 via the Zoom platform. The activity aimed to strengthen scientific writing and academic publication skills through a practical and collaborative approach for health sciences faculty from UNITEC and CEUTEC nationwide.
Workshop Objective
The objective of the workshop was to strengthen individual and institutional capacities in scientific writing by providing participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to structure, draft, and submit clinical cases and clinical images for scientific publication. The workshop also promoted academic visibility, the application of ethical principles, and the use of international guidelines in manuscript preparation.
Workshop Development
The workshop was conducted over a four-hour session, combining brief theoretical presentations with a hands-on practical component. The first part addressed topics such as academic visibility, criteria for selecting clinical cases, strategies for bibliographic search, and ethical principles in scientific publishing.
Following the presentations, participants worked in four small groups analyzing published articles, identifying opportunities for improvement, and collectively reflecting on key elements of scientific writing. They later shared their conclusions in a plenary session, which allowed for contrasting perspectives and enriching collective learning.
Through this process, attendees not only acquired essential concepts but also practiced critical skills for writing and publishing, applying international guidelines to real scenarios. The central moment of the workshop was the group practice session, which integrated the reviewed content and strengthened academic collaboration.
The activity concluded with the presentation of additional resources available on specialized platforms, the administration of a satisfaction survey, and the official closing of the event, reaffirming the commitment of the organizing institutions to strengthening research and scientific production in the region.
