Nursing Research Club – CCIE (Nursing Training and Research Center), 2025
Background
The CCIE (Nursing Training and Research Center) is the entity responsible for developing programs that strengthen training and research processes, scientific production, and audiovisual resources for nursing staff at both levels (Professional and Auxiliary) from the Ministry of Health (SESAL), the Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS), and the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH). It began operations on September 1, 1990.
The CCIE Nursing Research Club is envisioned as a meeting space for nursing professionals to exchange ideas, raise questions, and seek answers together on topics related to nursing research. It facilitates networking and encourages the formation of research teams.
During the visit of Professor Daniela Morelli from The Global Health Network, University of Oxford, United Kingdom, and Coordinator of Global Research Nurses, a series of activities were conducted in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, from May 20 to 24, 2024. These activities were coordinated by the Department of Academic Management and Research of Hospital Escuela as part of the Latin America and Caribbean Global Health Network Project (TGHN LAC), in collaboration with the Antonio Vidal Institute.
On May 22, a collaborative meeting was held with staff from the Nursing Training and Research Center (CCIE) and the National Human Resources Center (CENARH) of the Honduran Ministry of Health. One of the main outcomes of this meeting was the idea to establish the CCIE Nursing Research Club to strengthen research capacity among nursing personnel. The discussions focused on:
- The current role of nursing personnel in research within various settings of the Ministry of Health.
- Barriers to conducting nursing research.
- The importance of research ethics.
- Future challenges for nursing professionals in the Ministry of Health.

January 2025
Topic: Introduction to the Research Question
On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, a meeting was held at the Nursing Training and Research Center (CCIE), National Cardiopulmonary Hospital, organized by the Department of Academic Management and Research of Hospital Escuela and the Antonio Vidal Institute, within the framework of The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean project. The objective was to continue promoting and developing research capacities. The session focused on the topic: *Introduction to the Research Question*.
The main objective of this session was to strengthen the participants’ research skills in health by helping them identify the purpose and characteristics of a good research question. Participants also engaged in a practical exercise where they identified potential research ideas and formulated questions for future research projects. Each participant was encouraged to review the topic beforehand by taking the course available on the TGHN LAC platform: https://globalhealthtrainingcentre.tghn.org/research-question/
The session was led by Lic. Xiomara Medina and Lic. Mirian Pineda and was aimed at nursing professionals from the institution. It took place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The research question is the foundation of any study and is vital to ensuring the effectiveness and validity of the research being carried out. A key activity in developing a research question is collaboration and consultation with research partners and staff. This process transforms a scientifically interesting and important idea into a relevant, feasible, and well-designed study.
The process of collaboration and development of a research question forms the basis for the study protocol. The protocol is the document that transforms a research question into a feasible study designed to answer it. Once you are confident that you have formulated a strong question that can be answered through a well-designed study—and that the answer could improve health outcomes in a population—you can proceed to complete and finalize your protocol.
Topic presentation by Lic. Xiomara Medina, Nursing Training and Research Center, January 2025.
