Symposium "Women in Scientific Research in the Health Sector of Honduras"

March 27, 2025

8:00 am to 12:00 pm

On March 27, 2025, the event titled "Women in Scientific Research in the Health Sector of Honduras" was successfully held, organized by the Department of Academic Management and Research of the Hospital Escuela and The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean (TGHN LAC). The activity took place at the CEUTEC Prado Auditorium with the aim of reflecting on the challenges and opportunities for women in scientific research within the health sector in our country.

The event gathered 84 participants, including health sector leaders and representatives from key institutions such as the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACIT) and the Antonio Vidal Institute of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases (IAV). These participants shared their knowledge and experiences to promote the inclusion and leadership of women in the field of scientific research.

Throughout the session, topics related to gender equality in science, the integration of sex and gender in research, the specific challenges faced by women researchers, and strategies to advance toward a more equitable future in science were discussed.

Some of the topics addressed included:

  • Gender equality in science for sustainable development, the environment, and peace.
  • The importance of integrating sex and gender into scientific research.
  • The challenges faced by women conducting research.
  • Gender equality gaps in participation in scientific research.

This event aimed to strengthen women's leadership in science and contribute to a more just and equitable future in Honduras' health sector.

More information is available in the summary of the Panel "Gender Equality in Science for Sustainable Development, the Environment, and Peace" held during the event, including key discussion points and recommendations to boost women’s participation in science.

We thank all participants and institutions that made this event possible and reaffirm our commitment to continue working toward gender equity in scientific research.
