Date: April 2–3, 2025
Location: Hacienda El Trapiche, Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Organizers: Honduran Medical College, National Center for Continuing Medical Education, Honduran Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Hospital María, Pediatric Specialties
As part of the tenth anniversary of Hospital María, Pediatric Specialties, a Scientific Medical Symposium was held under the theme “10 Years Changing Lives.” This academic activity brought together pediatric health professionals to strengthen their knowledge on key clinical topics such as allergies, growth, and epilepsy, and included hands-on learning through specialized workshops.
The academic program featured keynote lectures on topics such as rhinitis, pediatric rhinoscopy, urticaria, anaphylaxis, short stature, food allergies, atopic dermatitis, diagnostic methods, and epilepsy. Clinical workshops were also offered, focusing on growth and short stature, anaphylaxis management, food allergies, and epilepsy classification.
Participation of The Global Health Network LAC Honduras Project
During the symposium, The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean (TGHN LAC) Honduras actively participated through an informational booth, which provided attendees with insights into the platform’s opportunities for strengthening research capacity.
Key resources promoted included the Data Clinic, a space offering mentorship in research ethics and methodology to support high-quality research conducted in and with the Hospital Escuela; and the Research Mentorship Program, aimed at strengthening the research capacity of professionals and students in the health field. The program focuses on two areas: Scientific Communication (improving writing and publication of articles and other formats) and Research Methodology (developing skills in study design, protocol development, and data analysis). It promotes ethical, high-quality research that contributes to health knowledge. This participation was made possible thanks to the support of the organizing team, who facilitated space to showcase the project in the context of strengthening pediatric scientific capacity in the country.
