Logistic Regression Course at UNAH Strengthens Analytical Skills of the TGHN LAC Honduras Team
As part of the TGHN LAC Honduras project, and in the context of the work carried out from the Data Center at Hospital Escuela (where we support researchers with data analysis and specific inquiries related to their studies), Dr. Katia López Mejía (epidemiologist) and Dr. Mónica Medina (research assistant) participated in the intensive course Intermediate Biostatistics: Logistic Regression Applied to Health, organized by the Master’s Program in Epidemiology at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), held from May 19 to 23, 2025.
This participation aligns with the objective of strengthening local capacities in data analysis to support research in public health, infectious diseases, and operational evaluations from health services.
This training, led by Dr. Arturo Reding Bernal, lasted five days and was held in person at Ciudad Universitaria. The course combined statistical theory and practical exercises using IBM SPSS Statistics software and covered key topics such as:
- Fundamentals and assumptions of binary logistic regression
- Categorization of continuous variables and selection of cut-off points
- Model evaluation using likelihood ratios and goodness-of-fit statistics
- Clinical and epidemiological interpretation of odds ratios
- Multivariate analysis and strategies to control confounding
Participation in this course was made possible through the invitation of UNAH, as part of academic partnerships that strengthen the TGHN LAC Honduras project. We thank the team of the Master’s Program in Epidemiology for this valuable training opportunity, which reinforces our technical competencies and the collaborative work between academia, international networks, and local research teams.

Dr. Mónica Medina and Dr. Katia López receive certificate of completion for the intensive course *Intermediate Biostatistics: Logistic Regression Applied to Health*, organized by the Master’s Program in Epidemiology at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH).

Support the community
Thank you for visiting The Global Health Network, please take a moment to read this important message. As you know, our aim is to enable equity in access to research knowledge and this is successfully delivering support and training to 1000’s of research teams all over the world. But we need your support!. If you have benefited from this research skills and knowledge sharing facility, please help us sustain this remarkable and unique provision of information for those who could otherwise not access such support and training. We would be really grateful if you could make a donation or ask your employer or organisation to contribute to the costs of maintaining this platform and the generation of new contents for all users. Just a small contribution from everyone who can afford to pay would keep this available for those who cannot. Thank you, we really appreciate your part in this community effort to better equity in global health research.
