The training event will be organised by the Public Health team at the University of Dundee School of Dentistry in partnership with the National Health System - Education Sector/training of professionals in Scotland (NHS Education for Scotland), the Department of Social Work at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean (TGHN LAC / Fiocruz). ).

 

The project is funded by the International Science Partnership Fund (ISPF). It is related to Smile4life - the National Programme to Improve the Oral Health and Psychosocial Wellbeing of the Homeless and/or Socially Excluded Population in Scotland. With the support of FAPERJ - Our State's Young Scientist Programme, the Wellcome Trust, and The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean (TGHN LAC / Fiocruz), the event will feature speakers Dr Nilza Rogéria Nunes and Laís Araujo from Brazil, and Dr Andrea Rodriguez and Niall McGoldrick from Scotland. Group activities will be held, focusing on the following educational themes: new areas of development for health promotion, good practices for community engagement, strategies and challenges for implementing actions aimed at improving the lives and greater social participation of people in situations of vulnerability, with a focus on Smile4Life (homeless people) and Mouth Matters (people in prison) programmes.

 

Objetivo:
To bring together coordinators, health professionals, and representatives of the third sector working in Scotland to explore new areas of development, good practice, strategies, and challenges for implementing actions aimed at people in situations of vulnerability.

Learning outcomes:

  • Apply engagement tools and methodologies to develop practical skills that promote communication with diverse community groups.
  • Analyse engagement tools and methodologies in working with diverse community groups and assess their potential impact on service provision.
  • Discuss implementation challenges in working with diverse community groups and suggest problem-solving strategies to overcome them.
