El 11 de febrero se llevó a cabo el primer Café Virtual del año 2026 y fue dedicado a destacar como la Innovación Social en Salud (ISS) sigue abriendo caminos para construir soluciones desde las comunidades, las alianzas y el aprendizaje colectivo en Latinoamérica y el Caribe (LAC). El Café Virtual es un espacio para conversar sobre el campo de la ISS en la región y es impulsado por SIHI LAC, la Iniciativa de Innovación Social en Salud (SIHI, por sus siglas en inglés) en la región LAC.
En el encuentro conversaron desde la experiencia Jackeline Alger (Instituto Antonio Vidal, Honduras), María Isabel Echavarría (CIDEIM, Colombia) y Diana María Castro (Universidad de Antioquia, Colombia), todas activas en SIHI LAC, compartiendo aprendizajes, reflexiones y los retos que siguen abiertos para el futuro. En su participación Jackeline Alger destacó la alianza del Nodo Honduras de SIHI LAC con el Proyecto The Global Health Network Latinoamérica y el Caribe (TGHN LAC) Honduras y como logro el fortalecimiento de capacidades en investigación enfocado en dos marcos metodológicos para construir capacidades que permiten analizar y visibilizar las iniciativas de ISS y también para que se realicen investigaciones con participación de la comunidad: a) la investigación de la implementación (IR por sus siglas en inglés, implementation research) y b) el marco Pathfinder (https://lac.tghn.org/proyectos-pathfinder/pathfinder-honduras/)
Se compartió que en el período 2024 a febrero 2026, se han realizado tres ciclos de talleres de entrenamiento en habilidades seguido de entrenamiento de entrenadores en planeación y evaluación efectiva de proyectos y dos ciclos de talleres de entrenamiento en habilidades seguido de entrenamiento de entrenadores en buenas prácticas de investigación en salud, ambos con participantes de Centroamérica, Costa Rica y Guatemala, ambos con la incorporación del enfoque IR de manera escalonada hasta una completa incorporación en 2026. Asimismo, en cada año, en 2024 y 2025, se ha realizado una diseminación local por parte de las instituciones capacitadas, Instituto Hondureño de Seguridad Social (IHSS) en 2024 y Hospital María Especialidades Pediátricas (HMEP) en 2025. Adicionalmente, se ha realizado diseminación regional por parte de la Fundación Etikos en República Dominicana en los años 2024 y 2025. Hasta la fecha, casi 100 profesionales han recibido capacitación en desarrollo de habilidades para una planificación efectiva y casi 50 en buenas prácticas de investigación en salud. De todos los profesionales capacitados en estos talleres de capacitación en habilidades, aproximadamente el 25% se han formado como capacitadores. Café Virtual: Social Innovation in Health in Latin America and the Caribbean
On February 11, the first Virtual Café of 2026 took place, dedicated to highlighting how Social Innovation in Health (SIH) continues to pave the way for building solutions from communities, partnerships, and collective learning in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The Virtual Café is a space for discussing the field of SIH in the region and is promoted by SIHI LAC, the Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) in the LAC region.
At the meeting, Jackeline Alger (Antonio Vidal Institute, Honduras), María Isabel Echavarría (CIDEIM, Colombia), and Diana María Castro (University of Antioquia, Colombia), all active in SIHI LAC, shared their experiences, lessons learned, reflections, and the challenges that remain for the future. In her presentation, Jackeline Alger highlighted the alliance between the SIHI LAC Honduras Node and The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean (TGHN LAC) Honduras project, noting the achievement of strengthening research capacities focused on two methodological frameworks for building capacity to analyze and make visible the SIH initiatives and to conduct community-based research: a) implementation research (IR) and b) the Pathfinder framework.
It was shared that in the period from 2024 to February 2026, three cycles of skill-building followed by trainer-the-trainer training workshops in effective project planning and evaluation and two cycles of skill-building followed by trainer-the-trainer training workshops in good health research practices were carried out, both with participants from Central America, Costa Rica and Guatemala, both with the incorporation of the IR approach in a phased manner until full incorporation in 2026. Likewise, in each year, in 2024 and 2025, local dissemination was carried out by the trained institutions, Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS) in 2024 and Hospital Maria de Especialidades Pediátricas (HMEP) in 2025. Additionally, the Fundación Etikos conducted regional dissemination in the Dominican Republic in 2024 and 2025. To date, nearly 100 professionals have been trained in skill-building in effective planning and nearly 50 in good health research practices.
